片语飞花之五：Smoking English (II)

　　摘要：上次说了一些关于烟草的词汇，这次说说抽烟的动作。

-- She took a pack of cigarettes from her purse, extracted one.
女同志也有烟民的呀：）北京栗正酒吧最出名的一首歌就是《抽烟的女人》。看来抽烟的女人还是很有人喜欢的。同样也有不少女同志对男人手指头上的"淡淡烟草味道"很钟情呀。Blue_tea，别逃课了，说你呢:-Q :(((((

--He took a cigarette out of a case but did not offer one to Spangler. Hardigan leaned over and lit it for him.

注意这几个动作，took a cigarette out of a case, offer one to, leaned over, light it for him.一连串的关于抽烟的描写，真精彩。

--"How long?" He offered Rogers a cigarette(敬烟). Rogers took it abruptly, pulled out a gold Dunhill lighter（摸出打火机的动作）, snapped it alight（啪的一声点燃打火机） for Xavier, snapped it alight for his own cigarette, returned it to the pocket of his overall(至此从敬烟到掏打火机到点烟到把打火机放回口袋的一连串的动作至此告一段落), and...

上面这两个句子，一个是不敬烟的，一个敬烟的。但是在一般来说，英美人是很少敬烟，远不如中国人"大方"。

--She bent low out of the wind to light the cigarette, puffed twice before she sat up again.
这种在风中点烟的场景在描写地下党的影片里很多呀，不过这位地下党员也是女同志呀。注意puff这个词。

--Horn lit a fresh cigarette form the butt of the first.
这是chain smoker的标准动作。注意butt在这里是烟屁股的意思。

--...Brezhnevis is ... a chain smoker: one of those men who light a new cigarette with the glowing butt of the last one.
再次解释chain smoker。

--What are some ways to ask for a cigarette or match in colloquial English?
下面看看借烟，借火怎么表达--这对老烟鬼是不可避免的。
--We sometimes ask a friend if we can bum a cigarette, or if he can spare a match or if he has got a lighter. "Cadge a cigarette" is not very commonly used any more. People occasionally say to bum a match. "Spare a match" is a more polite way of asking for one than "got a light." Both may be used with strangers or friends or co-workers.

bum 这个词其中一个意思也就是上句里面是乞讨的意思。bum a cigarette，讨烟抽。
例如：
He bummed a cigarette off me. 他向我讨了一支香烟。
Can I bum a cigarette? 我能不能（向你）讨一支香烟？（什么？香烟? 没有，我只随身携带打火机，要不要spare你一个呀？）

借火：
Can you spare a match? -- more polite
Have you got a light? -- less polite
Can I bum a match? -- occasionally used

-- Xavier put two cigarettes in his mouth, lit them, and handed her one.
英美人还有一个习惯。夫妇或关系非常亲昵的男女之间，可以在大庭广众见同时点两支--一支叨在嘴上自己（多为男子）吸，另一支从嘴上拿下来交给对方（大多是女方）用。#@$%^%&^我倒~，大学里我们几个男生经常干这种事，原来还有这么个说法。唉：（


点燃了烟，当然是为了吸，可是光"吸"还不行，还得"呼"--所谓"吞云吐雾"者是也--坚持"吸烟到蒂"。这样吸，那有手指不焦黄的？！那有烟蒂不堆积如山的？！即是抽烟，就有"火"，有"烟"。如一支连一支的抽（to chain smoke），那简直是工厂的烟囱在冒烟。即有烟，必有灰；这就得"弹灰"了...

呵呵，不讲了，写了这么多，得出去抽根烟休息休息了，明天接着贴（to chain post）。:-Q
